Luxury as an Experience: A Cross-Functional Vision Of Hospitality

To speak of luxury in hospitality is to speak of far more than a category, a privileged location or a refined aesthetic proposal. Today, luxury is built through the sum of details that guests perceive— sometimes consciously, sometimes almost intuitively—from their very first contact with the brand to the final gesture before their departure.
In my role as Director of Marketing and Communications at Hospes Hotels, I understand luxury as a cross-functional experience, one that must be present at every touchpoint with the guest. It is not simply a matter of communicating a brand promise, but of ensuring that this promise is experienced in a coherent, sensitive and memorable way in each of our hotels.
The experience begins long before arrival. From the moment a guest makes a reservation, a process is set in motion to better understand their preferences, anticipate their needs and prepare their stay in a personalised way. Every journey has a different purpose: a celebration, a getaway, a professional meeting, a much-needed rest or the desire to discover a destination from a different perspective. Understanding that context allows us to transform a stay into an experience.
At Hospes, we work to ensure that arrival at the hotel is not a formality, but the first emotional moment of the stay. The option to complete online check-in before arrival provides ease and convenience, while also freeing up time for what truly matters: enjoyment. For those who prefer to check in at the hotel, the process can become a calm and welcoming moment, accompanied by a glass of cava, overlooking the sea, in a historic courtyard or in conversation with our team.
That first contact is essential. That is why we take care of what guests see, what they smell and what they feel. Lighting, fragrance, the arrangement of elements, the welcome drink, the tone of the conversation and the naturalness of the service are all part of the same staging. From Marketing, we drive this holistic brand vision, but it is our teams who bring it to life every day, with sensitivity, judgement and a true vocation for service.
One of the great strengths of Hospes is the relationship each hotel has with its destination. We do not understand luxury as something detached from the place, but as something deeply connected to it. Our teams do not simply recommend monuments or well-known addresses; they help guests discover corners that do not always appear in a travel guide, places with soul, particular moments of the day, traditions, flavours and experiences that allow each city to be lived in a more authentic way.
Gastronomy is a fundamental part of that narrative. In our restaurants, cuisine speaks of the territory. Each proposal reflects local products, flavours and nuances, reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity. The gastronomic experience at Hospes is not an addition to the stay, but a way of bringing guests closer to the essence of the destination.
Wellbeing also plays a central role. Bodyna, our spa and relaxation spaces, responds to an understanding of luxury linked to time, silence, rest and care. In an accelerated world, offering calm is one of the greatest privileges. Treatments, rituals, pools and relaxation areas complete an experience designed to balance body and mind.
In the room, luxury becomes more intimate. The personalised welcome message, the amenities adapted to each category, the precise placement of every element, the visual order, the textures and the atmosphere must convey harmony without ever feeling forced. Every detail communicates. Every object, every fragrance and every gesture form part of the same silent conversation with the guest.
Even the night has its own language. The turndown service prepares the room for rest with particular delicacy: the throw, the cushions, the curtains, the slippers, the bedside mat, the pillow mist and a chocolate as a small caress to wish sweet dreams. These are simple gestures, yet profoundly meaningful, because they express a form of hospitality that accompanies the guest throughout the entire stay.
For all of this to work, luxury must be perfectly orchestrated. It requires procedures, training, visual coherence, operational sensitivity and a shared brand culture. But above all, it requires teams who have internalised care and respect for the guest. That is where the true difference lies: in turning a standard into a natural gesture.
This cross-functional work, bringing together brand, operations, communication, design, gastronomy and guest experience, has contributed to strengthening the positioning of Hospes Hotels as a benchmark in boutique luxury hospitality. It has also accompanied such relevant milestones as the achievement of the 5-star Grand Luxury category at Hospes Palacio de los Patos, in Granada, and Hospes Palacio del Bailío, in Cordoba.
True luxury is not imposed. It is perceived, felt and remembered. When it is well built, it remains in the guest’s memory long after they have left the hotel.
