AI-Augmented Hospitality: Using Technology to Create More Human Experiences

For generations, hospitality has been defined by the moments guests remember most: a warm welcome, exceptional service, and experiences that feel personal.
Today, those moments begin long before a guest arrives.
They begin with a Google search, a late-night chat, a phone call, or increasingly, a conversation with AI. Before a traveler ever steps aboard a ship or checks into a hotel, they are already deciding how easy, or difficult, it is to do business with a brand.
That changes everything.
The pandemic reshaped how consumers interact with brands, and generative AI is accelerating that shift even further. Guests have grown accustomed to instant answers when they want speed and expert guidance when they want reassurance. They do not think in terms of channels. They simply expect hospitality to meet them wherever they are.
The organizations that succeed will not force guests into a preferred way of interacting. They will give them the freedom to engage however they choose while making every experience feel effortless.
That is what I call AI-Augmented Hospitality.
AI as a Partner in Human-Centered Service
Despite the headlines, AI is not hospitality’s future. People are.
AI is simply the tool that helps us become better hosts.
For years, hospitality professionals have been asked to navigate a maze of systems, policies, and processes while continuing to deliver increasingly personalized service. We did not lose our ability to create exceptional guest experiences. We buried it beneath complexity.
AI gives us the opportunity to reverse that.
Think of AI as a copilot, not an autopilot.
It should surface knowledge instantly, summarize guest history, recommend the next best action, automate repetitive work, and eliminate friction behind the scenes. This gives advisors, onboard teams, and leaders something that is becoming increasingly valuable: time.
Time to listen.
Time to anticipate.
Time to solve problems.
Time to create memorable moments.
Connecting Every Stage of the Guest Journey
The opportunity extends far beyond the contact center. Every interaction before arrival shapes the experience that follows.
Reservations, marketing, operations, onboard teams, and guest services all contribute to a single journey. When AI connects these experiences instead of creating more silos, hospitality becomes more personal, not less.
At Windstar Cruises, we have embraced AI as more than a technology initiative. It has become part of how we think about service.
Whether through intelligent virtual assistants, AI-powered knowledge tools, automated quality assurance, or predictive insights, our goal remains the same: remove friction so our people can focus on what humans do best.
The Future of Hospitality Will Be More Human
Hospitality has never been about transactions.
It is about the confidence guests feel before a trip, the excitement created during the planning process, the reassurance provided when something changes, and the unforgettable moments experienced once the journey begins.
Technology does not create those experiences.
People do.
Our responsibility as leaders is to ensure technology empowers those people instead of slowing them down.
The next generation of hospitality will not be defined by who has the most AI. It will be defined by who uses it to create the most human experience.
That is the real opportunity in front of us, and I believe our industry has never been more exciting.
