catering establishments can be classified as:-
(1) PRIMARY CATERING ESTABLISHMENTS
Primary catering establishments give their customers food and beverage services in exchange for money. It can be subdivided into
1. Residential establishments:-
International chain hotels, resorts, Homestay, hotels, motels, Inn, and national chain hotels. They are specifically designated for profit and give employment prospects to numerous people. They charge as per the standard level and facilities they provide, and their main target is businessmen, tourists, and travelers.
2. Food and beverage outlets:-
Peculiarities, cafeterias, clubs, national restaurants, bars, pubs, discos, and national restaurants. They present food and beverage to clients for money and to engage people.
3. Outdoor catering:-
Outdoor function. Food festivals, picnics, outdoor activities. They give service beyond their establishments.
(2) SECONDARY CATERING ESTABLISHMENTS
are the ones in which offering food and beverage is part of another business. They are not designated mainly for money. They are subdivided into the following:-
1. Residential establishments:-
Village home, sanatorium, and a youth hostel.
2. Industrial catering:-
Army catering, departmental canteen, police canteen, factories canteen.
3. transport catering:-
Airlines catering, cruise catering, railway catering.
4. Institutional catering:-
University canteen, hostel canteen, welfare canteen, college canteen, hospitals canteen.
Based On Revenue Or Income Margin:-
(1) COMMERCIAL CATERING:-
Profitability is the main concern of commercial catering. Customers are mentioned as guests, and the disputes are to fulfill customers and generate such an image they would want to return. Planning dishes is relatively easy. Moreover, forecasting the number of meals is hard as the volume of the customer is inconsistent. E.g., hotels, restaurants, fast food, and takeaway.
(2) NON-COMMERCIAL CATERING:-
In non-commercial catering, profitability is not the outlet's prior concern. The prior obligation is the well-being and care of their customers. They are subdivided into-
1. Industrial catering
In industrial catering, food is served to fulfill the necessity of workers. It is the most acute catering, and the greatest of the Union quarrel arose because of poor catering facilities given by the company.
2. Institutional catering
Institutional catering is where food delivered is not inevitably to make a profit but as it is a necessity. It incorporates educational institutions, army mess, and hospital catering.
